This foundation is lost in time…as in the Beauty Guru era of the 2010s.
So this foundation is one that was interesting because it is a matte foundation, but also has SPF coverage.
The AAD (American Academy of Dermatology) recommendation for SPF coverage is a minimum of 30.
So you would still need to use SPF if you wanted to have the minimum appropriate amount of SPF coverage.
Although I think it’s an interesting product and is definitely long wearing, I think it’s just old and out of place in the modern makeup industry.
TL:DR (Too Long Didn’t Read) on the Bare Minerals Matte Liquid Foundation Mineral SPF 20:
- It’s very matte.
- Wears all day without fading.
- Can catch on to dry patches if you have combination skin.
- The shade options are odd (mostly cool or oddly pale undertones).
Bare Minerals Matte Liquid Foundation Mineral SPF 20 Review:
I received the Bare Minerals Matte Liquid Foundation SPF 20 as a sample for review.
Formulating a matte foundation with SPF coverage seems almost impossible, so I was intrigued.
Unfortunately, I received a shade that didn’t quite work for me.
As a work around, I’ve been applying the foundation and then applying a darker pressed powder to bring some color back into my face.
I do think the shade range is large, but the difference between shades is too wide towards the end of the range.
It sort of jumps from medium deep shades to just deep shades, and there’s not a lot of gradient in between.
It is full coverage, and it is matte, but I did notice that the foundation looked better on days where my skin was super hydrated.
On days where I had a little bit of texture, or some dryness, the foundation definitely clung to that dryness.
I think this foundation will look beautiful, as long as you have beautiful, perfect skin.
And that’s one of the reasons why matte foundations lost its popularity some year back.
The Bare Minerals Matte Liquid Foundation SPF 20 controls my skin for 8+ hours, is smudge-proof, and feels weightless on the skin.
But, the formula feels old. I am not interested in a foundation that I can only wear on perfect skin days.
Plus, I don’t actually have a shade. The shade I received was too light, but the next shade down is too orange.
Is Bare Minerals Matte Liquid Foundation Mineral SPF 20 good for oily skin?
Maybe. The foundation is good for oily skin, but is not good for skin that has any sort of texture or dryness.
The formula isn’t smoothing or blurring, and will cling to any dryness or texture.
If you already have this foundation, do your best to keep your skin hydrated and exfoliated for the best results.
Is the Bare Minerals Matte Liquid Foundation Mineral SPF 20 worth it?
If you have perfect skin and you’re looking for something very matte with no other qualities, yes.
For most beauties I would say no.
At $44 USD, it is not worth it to have a very one-dimensional matte liquid foundation that does not have the correct amount of SPF coverage, has a bad shade range (for deeper shades), and that only looks good on “good skin days”.
